Oval Tippet Rings - Typ 2

The STROFT oval tippet rings are manufactured from a special titanium alloy. This alloy provides extremely high tensile strength on the one hand and is exceptionally lightweight on the other. With a tensile strength of 800 N/mm² (slightly higher than stainless steel) and a density of 4.6 g/cm³ (only about half the weight of stainless steel), it offers an optimal strength-to-weight ratio. In addition, the STROFT oval tippet rings are produced using a highly sophisticated and unique MIM process (Metal Injection Moulding), resulting in a number of advantages:
- Thanks to their oval shape, the two line ends automatically align in the curved sections of the oval. This, together with the MIM manufacturing process, made it possible to design the surface of the mould in such a way that the oval tippet ring always provides optimal friction between the line and the ring, resulting in an even more consistent knot breaking strength.
- The oval shape of the connecting element integrates better into the linear profile of the two line sections than a round connector, enabling more efficient straightening and turnover of the leader.
- The significantly lower weight of the titanium alloy also contributes to smoother turnover of the leader during casting and reduces disturbance when the leader lands on the water and drifts on the surface.
- When fishing with a dry fly, the much lighter oval tippet ring breaks the water surface less readily than a heavier round ring made from a copper alloy.
